The purpose of this study was to
assess the perception of urban and rural dwellers towards
environmental sanitation in Ughelli North Local Government
Area of Delta State. One thousand questionnaires were
administered to respondents in the urban and rural areas of
the local government. The results of the analysis revealed
that environmental sanitation is an ideal government policy
for maintaining the environment to safeguard the urban and
rural dweller from diseases. However, their perception on
the issue differs. The paper recommends the enforcement of
sanitation laws and stiffer penalties for offenders. Also
waste disposal baskets be made available for the people in
the urban and rural areas of the local government for proper
